To follow are some tidbits from the 2005 Texas State Budget. This all right off of the Comptroller's website. The average salaries do not include bennies which are lush.

Commission on the Arts

A. Goal: SECURE RESOURCES
Secure from public and private sectors the appropriate and
necessary resources for the purpose of funding the Commission on
the Arts and to equitably distribute such resources.

Comment: What kind of crock is this! Their primary mission is to secure funds (mostly stolen from us taxpayers). This organization has no demonstrable benefit to society. Let the people that use and enjoy "Art" pay for it.

Total Cost: $5,714,666.00

Employees that we have to support now and for 30+ years of retirement: 20

Average salary: $38,578.00

Bond Review Board

A. Goal: PROTECT TEXAS BOND RATING
Ensure that Texas state bonds attain the highest possible bond
rating and that these bonds are issued in a cost-effective manner.

Comment: How do they go about doing this. Bribing bond-rating services like Standard and Poors. Bond raters do not care what Texas bureaucrats think of them. This money is completely wasted. The state shouldn't be borrowing money anyway.

Total Cost: $516,967

Employees that we have to support now and for 30+ years of retirement: 10.5 (I wonder which half of that employee is getting the check)

Average salary: $49,684.00

Cancer Council

A. Goal: CANCER SERVICES
To ensure that all Texans have prompt access to quality cancer
prevention and control information and services in order to
increase the number of Texans surviving or never developing cancer.

Comment: I would like them to show me just one person that they have aided in preventing or curing cancer. All information disseminated by this group is readily available in a hundred other places. This is not a legitimate function of government. It is far more important to allow people to keep the money that they have earned.

Total Cost: $3,488,539

Employees that we have to support now and for 30+ years of retirement: 9

Average salary: $41,914.00

Department on Aging

A. Goal: SERVICES AND OPPORTUNITIES
To enable older Texans to live dignified, independent, and
productive lives within a safe living environment through an
accessible, locally-based, comprehensive and coordinated continuum
of services and opportunities.

Comment: Their "Goal" sounds pretty noble, but this is just a feel-good service which provides no services that wouldn't be better provided by the private sector. Like all government "services" the bureaucrats benefit a lot more from this than the aged. Is this worth the government robbing Texans of $75,000,000 dollars of their hard-earned dollars?

Total Cost: $75,568,430

Employees that we have to support now and for 30+ years of retirement: 36

Average salary: $48,980.00
